Reforestation is an important tool in the fight against climate change, because trees are the cheapest and most effective CO2 reservoirs - and once planted, they also reproduce.
But how does it work? Trees absorb CO2 and other greenhouse gases, for example carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide. They convert these by means of photosynthesis, use the carbon for their growth and release the released oxygen back into the air. Every tree planted thus improves the air quality and actively contributes to climate protection.

A single tree can produce up to 130 kg of oxygen per year and filter up to 5 kg of pollutants from the air.
In general, deciduous trees can absorb more than conifers, with beech, chestnut and lime trees absorbing the most, closely followed by oak, maple and ash.
But trees can do even more: as a habitat they are important for the protection of species, they counteract the acidification of the oceans by absorbing CO2 and protect the soil from erosion.
